Pathways and coexistence
SmartGard.AI extends your existing cameras and NVRs. It coexists with the Essential and Enhanced layers, adding the judgement they lack.
In practice it runs alongside what you already own via a small edge device on your camera network. It talks to the cameras locally, sends still frames rather than video, and dials outward — so no ports are opened in your firewall, and your recorder keeps recording exactly as it does today. FAQ
How is SmartGard.AI different from built-in camera AI?
Built-in AI answers “did something move here”. SmartGard.AI looks at the actual image and answers “does this matter, given what this zone is for, what time it is, and what you asked to be told about” — and returns a written explanation you can read and audit.
Do we need to replace our VMS/NVR?
No. SmartGard.AI complements your existing VMS/NVR. It consumes device-generated events (e.g., ISAPI/SDK webhooks) and frames captured from the cameras, then adds interpretation and reporting.
Does SmartGard.AI perform facial recognition or biometric ID?
No. We do not provide facial recognition or biometric identification features. Where cameras expose such events, we can neutralise or ignore them. Faces and licence plates can also be blurred on your premises before an image leaves the site. More on privacy →
What about “perimeter tracking”?
SmartGard.AI does not implement its own perimeter tracking. If your cameras/NVR already emit perimeter or line-crossing events, we can ingest them and add context and routing.
Will you store our video?
No. We store still frames from actual events and patrol stops, plus the analysis results needed for your history and reports. Your recordings stay in your recorder, under your retention policy, untouched.
Data residency and encryption?
The platform runs on Microsoft Azure and the region is set when your deployment is configured. Data in transit is TLS-encrypted and images sit in private storage reachable only through short-lived signed links. Image analysis is performed by third-party AI providers, which may operate in other regions — you should have the specifics for your site in writing before you go live. Retention is aligned to your policy.
What exactly are “scenarios”?
A scenario is the set of rules attached to a camera: what to look for, any conditions you write yourself in plain language, and when that camera is on duty.
Who writes and maintains scenarios?
We design initial scenarios during onboarding. You can maintain them via a guided UI, or we can manage them under a support plan with change control.
