Most PTZ cameras arrive with a bill for everything around them. A heavier bracket. A power supply. A switch that can deliver more than standard PoE. By the time the moving camera is up, it has quietly reorganised the installation.

This one is the exception, and that is why it is the most commonly fitted speed dome Hikvision makes. Two kilograms, 164 mm across, standard 802.3at PoE, eighteen watts including the heater and the infrared. It goes where a fixed dome would have gone, on the infrastructure a fixed dome would have used, and then it moves.

What it does with that: 25x optical zoom from 4.8 to 120 mm, narrowing the view from 55 degrees to 2.4. A hundred metres of infrared. Three hundred presets, eight patrol routes, and 3D positioning, so an operator drags a box on the live view and the camera goes there. AcuSense underneath means the perimeter rules only fire for people and vehicles, not for the hedge.

Why there is no coverage diagram on this page

Every fixed camera in this catalogue carries an interactive diagram showing exactly what it covers. This one does not, and the reason is worth stating rather than hiding.

A camera that pans a full circle and zooms twenty-five times does not have a field of view. It has a field of view at this instant, pointed wherever the last operator or the last patrol route left it. Drawing one wedge would suggest a fixed coverage that does not exist. Hikvision also does not publish DORI figures for this model, and calculating them ourselves would produce numbers that are not comparable with the manufacturer figures used everywhere else here.

The honest version: at the wide end this sees about as much as a standard dome, and at full zoom it can pick a face out of a car park — but which of those is true at any given second depends entirely on how it is being driven. If coverage certainty matters more than reach, a fixed camera is the better instrument, and the diagrams on those pages will tell you exactly what you get.

A PTZ has a problem no fixed camera has: it is usually pointing somewhere else. Three hundred presets and eight patrol routes are only useful if something tells the camera when to stop patrolling and start paying attention, and traditionally that something is a person watching a wall of monitors.

The system needs one thing from a camera: the ability to report that something happened. This one reports motion, tampering, line crossing, intrusion, region entry and exit, and face captures, all with AcuSense filtering so the trigger is a person or a vehicle rather than weather. Worth knowing if you write zone rules for a moving camera: a zone drawn against one preset does not mean anything at a different preset. Tie rules to the presets that matter and leave the rest of the tour to recording.
